You are invited to a private recital by the sensational child prodigy Sophia Liu in our home in New York City.
Saturday, December 7 — doors open at 7pm — recital starts 7:30pm — optional drinks and dessert reception with the pianist afterwards until about 10:00pm. For photos/videos of previous Lilacs events, see here.

About Sophia
“One of the most talented students I have ever worked with in my 35-year teaching career” – Dang Thai Son
Sophia Liu was born in Shanghai China in 2010, moved to Japan at the age of 2. She started learning piano at age 4. Her first public performance on the stage was at age 5, winning the 1st Prize of Kobe Piano Competition in Japan.
Sophia moved to Montreal at age 7, where she currently resides. She has been studying piano with the world-renowned Professor Dang Thai Son — teacher to the 18th Chopin Competition winner Bruce Liu — since the age of 9.
In 2020, she was the youngest participant to be accepted for the Gina Bachauer International Junior Competition. In August 2022, she won the gold medal at the 18th Ettlingen Piano Competition in Germany.
At the age of 16, she has already given numerous recitals and concerts around the world and collaborated with many renowned orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de l’Isle, the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra, and upcoming performances with the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
In 2024, Sophia gave performances at the Duszniki International Chopin Festival in Poland, the Festival International de Piano de La Roque d’Anthéron in France, and the International “Chopin and his Europe” Festival in Warsaw, Poland.
Her first CD was just released, featuring some memorable excerpts from her performances at the Michelangeli Competition.
