About Gabriele
Praised for a pianism of “extraordinary sensitivity and perfect technique” (Il Sole 24 Ore), Gabriele Strata stands among the most distinctive Italian pianists of his generation. Gramophone has noted his “serious-minded rhetorical style,” describing him as “an idea man and a strong personality” whose musical intentions translate effortlessly into sound.
Gabriele appears regularly in major concert seasons across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, with performances at the Berliner Philharmonie, Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Sala Verdi in Milan, and Montréal’s Maison Symphonique. His repertoire spans from the Baroque to contemporary music, and he has collaborated with eminent conductors including Kent Nagano, Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli, and Xian Zhang.
His artistry has been recognized at leading international competitions, including the Concours Musical International de Montréal, where he received the Silver Medal, Audience Prize, and Chamber Music Prize in 2024, as well as First and Audience Prizes at the Rio de Janeiro International Piano Competition and the XXXV Premio Venezia. He was further honored by Teatro La Fenice with the Una vita nella musica – giovani award and gained international attention for his performances at the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, praised for their narrative depth and poetic clarity.
Trained by Boris Berman, Benedetto Lupo, and Ronan O’Hora, Gabriele earned his Master of Music from Yale University at age 19 and later completed Artist Diplomas at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. He is currently mentored by Julia Mustonen-Dahlkvist.
