Antony Ratinov – Saturday, June 7, 2025

An intimate evening of world-class classical piano, drinks, and dessert

We have the pleasure of welcoming back our Lilacs pianist, Anthony Ratinov, for an intimate evening of piano, drinks, and dessert, in support of The Scriabin Society of America, a 501(c)(3) private foundation, dedicated to promoting the life, legacy, and music of Alexander Scriabin—one of the most visionary and transformative composers in history

The Scriabin Society of America — which is the recipient of 100% of the proceeds — strives to deepen public appreciation of Scriabin’s music and expand understanding of his artistic and philosophical ideas through concerts, publications, and educational outreach.

Poet, philosopher, musician, mystic, visionary and egotist – Alexander Scriabin was the romantic to end Romanticism, a man whose creative imagination knew no bounds and who believed himself capable of re-booting global civilization. Scriabin was one of the most devoted followers of Chopin and Chopin’s influence on Scriabin’s earlier works is unmistakable. This specially curated recital by Anthony Ratinov juxtaposes works by Chopin and Scriabin, showcasing the similarities as well as Scriabin’s evolving musical development.

Saturday, June 7 — doors open at 7pm — recital starts 7:30pm — drinks and dessert reception with the pianist afterwards until 10pm. For photos/videos of previous Lilacs events, see here.

To RSVP for the recital, go to the Eventbrite page here. 100% of the recital proceeds will go to The Scriabin Society of America.

Special pricing – There is a $100 ticket option, which gives you both the recital with reception as well as the 2025 annual membership to the society, a significant saving.

In addition, we are encouraging everyone, whether you are able to attend the recital or not, to consider supporting The Scriabin Society of America with a direct donation here.

About Anthony

Since Anthony’s last recital with us at the Lilacs in 2023, he has been on a tear, winning the 3rd Prize at the prestigious 2024 Concours Musical International de Montréal, where he was praised for his “striking confidence in taking risks” and for his ability to “go beyond the virtuoso challenge and have fun with the music” (Le Devoir). Ratinov also won the 2nd Prize at the 2025 National U.S. Chopin Competition, and in 2023 won the 2nd Prize at the Busoni International Piano Competition with his performance of Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto, lauded for “sporting a pianism at the highest level… with admirable dexterity and stainless precision” (L’Ape Musicale).

Anthony is already qualified to compete in the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in October in 2025.

Anthony began studying piano at the age of four with his grandmother, Edit Ratinova, who taught at the renowned Gnessin Music School in Moscow for 45 years and who was herself a student of the school’s founder, Elena Fabianovna Gnesina. He is currently pursuing the Artist Diploma program at The Juilliard School, and recently joined the studio of Robert McDonald. He completed his graduate studies at the Yale School of Music studying with Boris Berman and Boris Slutsky, and previously studied at Yale University, where he majored in chemical engineering and graduated with honors, in addition to studying piano with Wei-Yi Yang.
